Performing a Second Umrah on the Same Trip: Masjid Aisha Ihram, Fresh Nusuk Permits and Umrah on Behalf of Deceased Parents
By the Kimi Travels Team | Updated October 2026
Many Pakistani families do not travel for one Umrah — they travel for two or three. One for yourself, one for a deceased mother, one for a father who never got his turn; it is one of the most quietly moving patterns in Umrah travel, and one of the most misunderstood. The rules are mechanical and simple to state: a fresh ihram for each Umrah, from outside the Haram boundary, and a fresh Nusuk permit for each Umrah, every single time. Har Umrah ke liye naya ihram aur naya permit — koi shortcut nahi hai. The families who get caught are the ones who assumed the first Umrah's paperwork would cover the rest.
This guide explains the second-Umrah rules — where ihram is renewed, how permits work for repeat Umrahs, how Umrah on behalf of the deceased is intended, and how to pace multiple Umrahs across one journey.
The Ihram Rule: Return to the Boundary
Umrah requires ihram entered from outside the Haram boundary — the area around Makkah within which a pilgrim already inside cannot simply re-enter the state. For a second Umrah, pilgrims travel to the nearest convenient point beyond the boundary, almost always Masjid Aisha at Tan'im, a short drive from the Haram, where facilities for ghusl, changing and intention are built for exactly this purpose. The family travels out, enters ihram anew, makes the intention — for themselves or on behalf of a deceased relative — and returns to the Haram for Tawaf and Sa'i. Ji'irranah and other boundary points serve the same function for itineraries already on that side of Makkah. The full ihram discipline — what changes once the intention is made — is covered in our Umrah ihram guide.
The Permit Rule: One Umrah, One Permit
Since Saudi Arabia moved ritual access onto Nusuk, the rule has been consistent: one permit covers one Umrah, and a repeat Umrah requires a fresh permit booked through the platform. The historical gap rules that once spaced repeat Umrahs — the 15-day requirement of the pandemic era — were scrapped years ago, and no fixed waiting period applies today; what governs repeat Umrahs in practice is permit availability, which tightens predictably in Ramadan and the school-holiday windows our best time for Umrah guide maps. Multiple-entry visa holders should also remember the balance rule: each visit draws on the 90-day cumulative stay cap and needs its own Nusuk package, mechanics detailed in our multiple-entry visa guide.
Umrah on Behalf of the Deceased: How It Is Intended
The intention rules are strict in a way that surprises families. One Umrah carries one intention — you cannot perform a single Umrah on behalf of two people, and you cannot fold your own Umrah and a parent's into one Tawaf. If a pilgrim wants to perform Umrah for a deceased mother and a deceased father, that is two Umrahs, each with its own ihram, its own niyyah and its own permit. The mainstream scholarly position also asks that the person performing Umrah badal has first performed Umrah for themselves. There is no separate paperwork category for Umrah on behalf of the deceased — the document structure is identical; what changes is the intention made at ihram. Families carrying this intention should make it explicitly at Masjid Aisha, quietly and clearly, before the Tawaf begins.
Pacing Multiple Umrahs Across One Journey
The families who manage three Umrahs comfortably treat them as appointments, not impulses:
- Space the days — a day of rest and ziyarat between Umrahs, using the Makkah sites in our Makkah ziyarat guide, lets elders recover
- Book permits the hour windows open — repeat-Umrah permits in peak seasons go first, because every other family in Makkah is planning the same second Umrah
- Choose late-night hours — the Mataf after Isha thins out, and the drive to Tan'im is calmer
- Arrange the transport in advance — taxis to Masjid Aisha are plentiful but unbooked; a pre-arranged car with a driver who waits is the difference between a serene night and a bargaining session at 1 a.m.
- Keep the visa clock in view — the stay runs to the visa's own limit, and the final farewell Tawaf needs room before departure
The Friction, Stated Honestly
Every rule in this guide is public and learnable — the miqat point, the permit system, the intention rules. What DIY families consistently underestimate is the coordination tax of the second and third Umrah: permits hunted at midnight on an app, taxis negotiated in broken Arabic after a long day, an elderly father's second ihram managed at a crowded mosque, and all of it stacked on the fatigue the journey has already produced. None of it is impossible — plenty of families manage it beautifully. But the operators who build repeat-Umrah itineraries every season pre-book the permits, fix the transport, and pace the days so the spiritual purpose of the journey is not spent on logistics. The choice between doing it alone and having it handled is genuinely free; it should just be made with the real picture, not the brochure one.

A Hajj file is a family's decade of intention compressed into paperwork — and no quota, portal or deadline outweighs the intention itself. We ask Allah to strengthen the families of Gaza's martyrs — more than 73,000 by the Health Ministry's own count — and to end the war that keeps lengthening the list. We pray for Sudanese students abroad, studying on news from home — for the families they cannot reach and the ceremonies their parents may never see. "Why do you not fight in the cause of Allah — for the oppressed among men, women and children who cry, 'Our Lord, rescue us from this town whose people are oppressors'" (Qur'an 4:75)
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I enter ihram for a second Umrah?
Outside the Haram boundary — most pilgrims use Masjid Aisha at Tan'im, a short drive from the Haram, which has full facilities for ghusl, changing and intention.
Do I need a new permit for each Umrah?
Yes — one permit covers one Umrah, and repeat Umrahs each need a fresh permit through Nusuk, booked against live availability.
Can one Umrah count for two deceased relatives?
No — one Umrah carries one intention. Two relatives means two separate Umrahs, each with its own ihram and intention.
Is there a waiting period between two Umrahs?
No fixed gap applies today — the old 15-day rule was scrapped years ago. In practice, permit availability in peak windows is what spaces repeat Umrahs.
Can I perform Umrah on behalf of a deceased parent if I have not done my own?
The mainstream position asks that you perform your own Umrah first, then carry the intention for the deceased in a separate Umrah with its own ihram.
