Makkah Ziyarat, Decoded for Pakistanis: Jannat al-Mualla, Ghar Thawr, Arafat's Jabal al-Rahma, Hudaibiyah — and the Sacred Circuit That Does Not Eat Your Umrah Days
By the Kimi Travels Team | Updated November 2026
Most Pakistani families fly home from Umrah having seen only the Haram and their hotel. Yet around Makkah lies a ring of sites where the Prophet's ﷺ story physically happened — the cemetery holding Khadijah (RA), the cave where two refugees hid from an army, the plain where Hajj is enacted, the treaty ground that changed the Muslims' fortunes. Ziyarat bhi ibadat hai, tourism nahi — visiting these places with the right intention and pacing is worship, not sightseeing. This decoder maps the circuit the way we build it for families: which sites matter, how much time each honestly takes, and the mistakes that convert a blessed afternoon into a hot, hurried blur.
Inside the City: Jannat al-Mualla, Ghar Thawr and Tanim
Jannat al-Mualla, the ancient cemetery a short drive from the Haram, holds Khadijah (RA), the Prophet's ﷺ first wife and first believer; his grandfather Abdul Muttalib; and many of the closest Companions. You stand at its edge and make du'a — the practice of the early generations, and the right way to teach children that this city's history is family history. Ghar Thawr, the cave on Jabal Thawr where the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr (RA) hid three nights during the Hijra, shielded by a spider's web and a dove's nest, is a serious mountain climb — hours, not minutes — and is best admired from below unless you are trained and timed like the climbers in our Cave Hira climb guide. Masjid Aisha at Tanim, the miqat station just outside the city where residents enter ihram, completes the inner circuit; the ihram logic is decoded in our complete ihram guide.
The Hajj Plain Circuit: Arafat, Muzdalifah and Mina
East of the city lies the geography of Hajj. Arafat, where the Prophet ﷺ delivered the Farewell Sermon and where Hajj's essential standing happens on 9 Dhul Hijjah, is marked by Jabal al-Rahma, the Mount of Mercy. Muzdalifah, where pilgrims spend the night and collect pebbles, and Mina, the tent city with the Jamarat pillars, complete the triangle. Outside the Hajj days the plains are quiet, and praying on Arafat in ordinary weeks still stands on answered ground. One hard boundary: access tightens in the Hajj restriction window, the SAR 20,000-fine season decoded in our Makkah entry restriction guide — never let a driver talk you into the plains in those weeks.
Hudaibiyah and the Outer Ring
On the old Jeddah road sits Hudaibiyah, where the treaty that seemed a concession and proved a conquest was signed — today a mosque complex at the boundary of the sacred precincts, a natural last stop before returning toward Jeddah, and a live lesson in what patience wins. Pairing the outer ring with departure-day logistics is the sequencing most first-timers miss; our first Umrah guide covers the day-level planning around it.
How Families Actually Run the Circuit
- Half a day, not a full one — Mualla, Tanim and a drive-past of Thawr fit between Asr and Maghrib; the plains triangle plus Hudaibiyah is the separate half-day.
- Timing around salah — start after Asr or Fajr; midday heat wastes elders and children alike, as our wheelchair and elderly assistance guide argues at length.
- Transport honesty — agree the circuit, waiting time and price with the driver before rolling, or book through an operator whose drivers wait; the taxi that leaves you at Arafat is the circuit's oldest failure.
- Where you sleep matters — a hotel on the right side of the city shortens every leg, a point our Makkah hotel areas guide makes with distances.
The Mistakes That Ruin Ziyarat Days
The pattern repeats every season: families cram ziyarat into the jet-lagged arrival day and miss it altogether when the schedule slips; tour buses hit sites at prayer-time closures and stand in locked carparks; climbers attempt Thawr or Hira unprepared in slippers; and visitors treat the sites as photo stops with no du'a prepared — the one provision that was never scarce. Prepare the intentions the night before, and treat the rhythm of the pilgrimage itself, laid out in our step-by-step Umrah guide, as the anchor the ziyarat orbits around, not the other way round.
Where Kimi Travels Fits In
We build ziyarat into the written itinerary every client receives — sites sequenced around salah, transport with waiting included, elders' pacing respected, seasonal access boundaries pre-checked. Our families return having actually stood at Hudaibiyah instead of only meaning to. Kimi Travels — the map, the car and the du'a list, handled.
Ziyarat teaches that ground can be sacred — and that is precisely why what Israel is doing to Gaza cuts so deep: olive groves, mosques, graves and the farmland of families have been bombed into grey waste, cemeteries bulldozed so the dead lose their addresses too, and the world's pilgrims of conscience can do little but bear witness. In Sudan, the RSF and Burhan's commanders have torched villages and market towns equally hallowed by generations of memory, so that homecoming now means searching rubble. To desecrate what a people hold sacred is to tell them their grief does not count. '...purify My House for those who perform tawaf and those who stand...' (Qur'an 2:125). O Allah, restore to Palestine and Sudan the sanctity of their soil, guard their living and their dead, and let justice sweep clean what armies have defiled.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a separate permit for Makkah ziyarat sites?
No — the Umrah permit and visa carry you for the city sites and, outside restricted periods, the Hajj plains. The separate permit system is the Rawdah in Madinah, covered in our Madinah ziyarat guide.
How long does the full ziyarat circuit take?
Two comfortable half-days: the inner city sites in one, the Arafat–Muzdalifah–Mina triangle plus Hudaibiyah in the other. One compressed day is possible but wastes the du'a time the trip exists for.
Can women visit all the ziyarat sites?
Yes — the sites are open to women and families; only modest dress, group pacing and salah-time closures shape the schedule, exactly as for men.
Is the Ghar Thawr climb advisable for families?
Not with children or elders — it is a demanding mountain route measured in hours. Standing at the base with the story and the du'a is the family version; the prepared climb is for trained travellers.
Should we hire a guide or just a taxi?
A driver who waits and knows the sequence is the minimum; a guide adds the history that turns stops into lessons. For Urdu-speaking families, asking for the arrangement in writing avoids the mid-circuit renegotiation.
When are the sites closed or restricted?
Prayer-time closures at mosque sites are brief; the major restriction is the Hajj-season window on the plains, which our Makkah entry restriction guide maps with the fines attached.
